From May 4th to 15th 2008, the Goethe-Institute Jordan invited 18 young journalists from Mediterranean and EU member states to participate in the first Euro-Mediterranean Academy for young Journalists.
Taking place in Amman, the academy aimed at raising the knowledge of young journalists about the importance of a responsible and critical international journalism. Through active discussions, expert hearings and practical work experiences, the participants’ awareness about the role and functioning of the media and its responsibility in dealing with sensitive issues in the context of intercultural journalism was raised. Moreover, an active information network and sustainable cooperation beyond borders was established, designated to change mutual misperceptions and fight prejudices usually spread and increased by media.
